The place where we live is called Harpel. Harpel is located between Winschoten and ter Apel in the municipality of Westerwolde. We have a company that does work in nature, especially for Natuurmonumenten but also for Staatsbosbeheer. Our Sheepskin and Blaarkop cattle graze the nature reserves and are stabled at our home during the winter. Also "Schier Stee" is on our yard behind the potting stables where the animals are in winter. Here you can enjoy a beautiful view over the farmlands. We hope to welcome you soon in Harpel!
Nature and surroundings
The Metbroekbos and adjacent Eemboerveld is located between the villages of Onstwedde and Vlagtwedde. By bicycle it takes about 10 minutes from Harpel to get here. You will also find our sheet-fed cows here. Besides the many walking and cycling possibilities, there is also a nature experience path for children. Smeerling is an ancient esdorpen hamlet with old Saxon farms where it seems as if time has stood still here. Smeerling is about 10 minutes by bike from Harpel, and close to the German border is the fortress of Bourtange. Visitors to Bourtange imagine themselves centuries back in time. Get to know this cozy village, the fortress that was never taken. In the municipality of Westerwolde you can enjoy walking or cycling in one of the many natural areas that the municipality is rich. The Valley of the Ruiten Aa is managed by Natuurmonumenten . From Smeerling to Jipsinghuizen are several walking and cycling routes along the Ruiten Aa.
