YOU ARE WELCOMEYou want to take time out away from Portugal’s crowd-pullers. The countryside, the Alentejo, with its endless expanses and natural beauty, ancient houses and rural life, and in between the outstanding castles and their medieval towns. Feel invited to the peaceful Alentejo, to Castelo de Vide. Not far from the Spanish border, in the midst of the national park and its green hills, a soft music of sheep bells and chirping at night – this is where you will find the holiday home “Casa de Campo”. Surrounded by a spacious plot of land, an adjacent stream and at the foot of the breathtaking sight of the town of Castelo de Vide.
Nature and surroundings
The nearest supermarket (Pingo Doce) as well as the public outdoor swimming pool (approx. 5 min), the town centre (approx. 10 min) as well as the hospital (approx. 15 min) can be reached in approx. 500m. This is a wonderful place for a stroll through the town with its many small boutiques and cafés that invite you to linger. There are also small supermarkets and bars in the city centre. Special mention should be made of the beautifully landscaped parks and their water features, as well as the playground. A walk up to the castle is just as easy on foot. The synagogue is located in the immediate vicinity of the castle. This has now become a museum and is located in the old Jewish quarter, with free admission. From the holiday home you can see a beautiful chapel on the opposite ridge, the Ermida de Nossa Senhora da Penha. This chapel invites you to a dreamlike hike. The climb will reward you several times over, as the view over the city and the wooded hills of the national park.

The cottage was found to be freezing cold upon entering. A functioning heating system was absent. Apart from some large logs lying next to the heating oven in the kitchen, which did not fit in at all, there was no dry wood in sight, nor kindling. As a result, we spent days in the cold. Furthermore, the TV did not work, the oven was unusable and the cutlery and cooking utensils were incomplete and the coffee maker malfunctioned. The shower gave only cold water after the first day. It is clear that this cottage is unsuitable for winter rentals. For the money charged for this cottage (a whopping 95euros-the most expensive we paid during our tour of Alentejo!) this cottage is very pretentious and we expected more quality and care. The outside is beautiful but the inside rattles on all sides. Don't fall for it.
The nature house is located at an intersection of the N246 with another road where cars regularly drive over. The property on which the cottage is located is large but very cluttered. Next to the cottage is a dilapidated shack with junk, further on an old caravan and a pile of junk with a black plastic over it. So "nature" you have to look around it. Every day an artist came onto the property to drill into a piece of marble behind the cottage. Nothing against artists but it would have been nice if we had been informed in advance. So we sought peace and quiet in the village.
