"Sweltsje" means "swallow" in Frisian. The cottage overlooks the Wijde Ee and the Frisian meadows, and the high roof makes the interior spacious and bright. A 70-square-meter wooden waterfront cabin for four people, with two bedrooms. One bedroom has a double bed, and the other has two single beds. Just 50 meters away is a large shared dock with a terrace and picnic table, right on the open waterway. The sitting area is slightly elevated and separate from the kitchen-living room. Inside, there is a wood stove. The kitchen is equipped with a dishwasher, an oven, and an electric stove. There is approximately 400 m² of open space around the cottage. This is one of the three pet-free water lodges. The beds are not made upon arrival; you can book made-up beds as an add-on. Bath towels and kitchen linens are included.

Nature and surroundings

You’ll be staying at our location: twelve wooden waterfront lodges and three group accommodations spread across three hectares, right next to De Alde Feanen National Park. The property is situated on the Wijde Ee. From this lake, you can boat—without crossing any bridges—to Grou or De Alde Feanen, and in the other direction to Akkrum and the Sneekermeer. The area is surrounded by meadows, reed beds, and canals, and the sounds of birds dominate the landscape. Cars are parked in the central parking lot, which has six charging stations; you walk to your cottage with a luggage cart. On the grounds, there’s a playground, a play area, a ping-pong table, and a water slide that ends in the lake. You can rent the floating sauna in two-hour blocks, and upon request, it can be taken out onto the lake. You can rent a rowboat, canoe, or SUP board on-site. The village and train station of Akkrum are 4 kilometers away, Grou is 10 kilometers away, and Leeuwarden is 20 kilometers away. Akkrum has held Green Key Gold certification since 2024 and is a fireworks-free zone.

A wonderful week of relaxing despite the less than perfect weather. The cottage lacked nothing and the simultaneous sailing camps at the park also brought a little life during the day.

    We enjoyed our weekend.

It was a very nice cottage. Everything was there. A cottage for the winter to do nothing at all. Nice to relax, have time for each other. Nice beds. Nice, cozy staff who are ready for you. Everything explained very clearly.
