The nature house is located in the yard of a gentleman's farmhouse ("The Big House") built in 1870. The cottage was built in 2015 and consists of a large open living area with a small kitchenette (two burner stove / no oven) and one sleeping area with a double bed and a fold-out bed (camp bed for babies also available), and a comfortable modern bathroom with shower and toilet. You enter through the bedroom on the east side of the house. There is a south-facing covered patio and a terrace that extends to the west side of the house allowing you to enjoy the garden and the view all day. For families, a high chair and toys are available and children's crockery is provided. There is no central heating in the cottage, the heating is through a pellet stove in the living room. We recommend to take this into account and with (small) children only use the cottage in the period April to September due to the unpredictable night temperatures.
Nature and surroundings
The cottage is beautifully situated overlooking the surrounding meadows, often pheasants and hares walk nearby, and occasionally a roe deer. It lies on the Pieterpad so you can easily walk in 20 minutes to Pieterburen where there are a number of restaurants and the seal crèche. There are also a lot of cycling routes nearby. Nice trips in the area are: canoeing in Winsum (the most beautiful village in the Netherlands), Fishing Museum Zoutkamp, National Park Lauwersmeer, Borg Verhildersum and the city of Groningen at 30 min drive. It is also nice to sit in the garden :)
