Nature house in Fochteloo

Want to get away from the hustle and bustle for a few days? Then come and unwind completely in our stylish guesthouse with a sauna and jacuzzi, located on the edge of the Fochtelooër Veen and close to the Drents Friese Wold National Park. The guesthouse features a spacious, extra-long box-spring bed (2.10 m) for a restful night’s sleep. From the cozy sitting area with a sleeper sofa, you’ll enjoy a wonderful view of the beautifully landscaped garden. You’ll have access to a private kitchen. In short: you’ll want for nothing—all you have to do is unpack your suitcase. In the evening, you can admire the sunset from one of the benches or in the hammocks in the walking garden. The private covered porch with a seating area, lighting, and a heater guarantees delightful summer evenings in the Frisian open air. Use of the sauna or hot tub can be booked as an optional extra, and during the summer months, there’s a shared swimming pool that you can use for free. Electric bikes can be charged in our storage shed.

In the beautiful, wooded surroundings of the nature reserves, you’ll find endless opportunities for hiking and biking, or you can simply relax and enjoy nature to your heart’s content. For active sports enthusiasts, Appelscha offers fantastic MTB trails in the old, overgrown dune areas, and the surrounding area provides great opportunities for canoeing, stand-up paddleboarding, or rock climbing. Just under a half-hour’s drive from here are beautiful lakes with large sandy beaches, such as the Blauwe Meer or the Nije Hemelriek. There are various fun day trips to activities, museums, or nearby towns. The historic villages of Veenhuizen and Frederiksoord both received UNESCO World Heritage status in 2021 and are definitely worth a visit. Notable museums include the Prison Museum in Veenhuizen and the Drents Museum in Assen. The Maallust brewery, where you can experience the brewing process surrounded by magnificent kettles, is nearby and recently won the “Best Beer in the Netherlands 2022” award.
