In the nearby village of Leek is Nienoord Castle, a beautiful estate with hiking area, a large playground and a beautiful swimming pool with water slides. These safari tents are located on the Lettelberterdiep which is in direct connection with the Leekstermeer. You can swim, fish or start a canoe trip from the jetty. On the other side of the Lettelberterdiep is a 'mountain basin', an overflow area in times of flooding. This area is freely accessible to hikers, bird lovers can enjoy themselves here. The accommodation is located on the Nienoord route, a beautiful bike ride through the Westerkwartier. Near the Leekstermeer are the Lettelberterpetten, with a beautifully situated bird observation hut. Should you feel the need for a day in the city, the cozy city of Groningen is 12 kilometers away and is easily reached by bicycle.
