On the border of Friesland and Drenthe, near Drents Friese Wold, Fochteloerveen and UNESCO world heritage prison village Veenhuizen. Our chalet called TOLVE is located on a quiet small vacation park in Oosterwolde. The cottage includes four bicycles (2 women's and 2 men's bikes) which you may use for free. The cozy chalet is suitable for up to 4 persons and is fully equipped, including dishwasher, oven, 4 burner stove, fridge freezer and washing machine. In the chalet you will find hiking and cycling routes and plenty of information about the area. The vacation park is easily accessible by public transportation, at the entrance of the park is a bus stop.
Nature and surroundings
The chalet is located near beautiful nature reserves. Along the park runs a road to a unique piece of untouched nature reserve the Fochteloërveen the size of 2500 hectares with many cycling and walking routes and beautiful watchtowers. It is one of the last high moors in Europe and home to the majestic crane. The cottage is also near Appelscha and the famous National Park Drents-Friese Wold, best known for the Aekingerzand, popularly known as "The Bald Dunes. For culture, the historic prison village of Veenhuizen, about 3 km away, is a must. Dive back in time and visit the impressive prison museum, take a ride in the prison bus or stroll through the old village past the stately buildings. Veenhuizen is part of the Colonies of Weldadigheid, which recently received UNESCO World Heritage status. A unique place and definitely worth a visit.

Shania General rating:There were 5 beds in the cottage, but in our opinion the cottage is too small for 5 people. We ourselves were 3-4 people and could not all sit comfortably. The sofa is for 2 people and for the rest there are dining room chairs.This was the only minus point for us, otherwise the cottage was fine!
Er waren 5 bedden in het huisje, maar ons inziens is het huisje te klein voor 5 personen. Wij waren zelf met 3-4 personen en konden niet allemaal lekker zitten. De bank is voor 2 personen en voor de rest zijn er eetkamerstoelen.

The cottages are close together though and we had nuisance from the neighbors (which fortunately was resolved fairly quickly). Nature is definitely there. The surroundings are green. The park is on a wide road that goes to the village, so if you really want to seek peace and nature you might want to go to the nature reserve nearby.
Het park is over het algemeen rustig. De huisjes staan wel kort op elkaar en we hadden overlast van de buren (wat gelukkig vrij snel was opgelost). Natuur is er zeker. De omgeving is groen. Het park ligt aan een ruime weg die naar het dorpje gaat, dus als je echt de rust en natuur wil opzoeken zal je wellicht naar het natuurgebied in de buurt kunnen gaan.
