Nature house in Oignies-en-Thiérache

A beautiful little house that has just about everything you need for a relaxing stay. Not only does it look beautiful, but it also feels spacious inside despite its limited size. This is partly due to the large side windows (with roller shades), where you can sit to read a book or have a meal. The view of the greenery is amazing! The little patio is also the best.
The kitchen has everything you need, from a small fridge to a combination oven, an induction stove, and plates, cutlery, and so on. The water is probably safe to drink, but it’s still recommended to bring your own drinking water (tip: water is very cheap in France).
The bathroom also has everything you need. The shower is definitely good, but the shower curtain wasn’t really our thing (it makes the space feel cramped when it’s drawn in and is a bit musty at the bottom), and a light in the shower wouldn’t be a bad idea either (it’s a bit dark right now).
The bed is a sofa bed. It wasn’t particularly comfortable for us, but it’s still pretty decent for a sofa bed. The mattress topper provided was very welcome, as was the comforter.

Prachtig huisje dat zowat alles heeft om een rustgevend verblijf mogelijk te maken. Niet alleen oogt het mooi, het voelt binnenin ook ruim aan voor de beperkte oppervlakte. Dit komt mede door de grote zijramen (met rolgordijn), waar je kunt zitten om een boek te lezen of om te eten. Het zicht op het groen is geweldig! Ook het terrasje is de max.
De keuken heeft wat nodig is, van koelkastje tot combi-oven, inductievuur en borden/bestek/etc. Het water is vermoedelijk wel drinkbaar, maar er wordt toch aangeraden om eigen drinkwater te voorzien (tip: in Frankrijk is het water zeer goedkoop).
Ook de badkamer heeft wat nodig is. De douche is zeker goed, maar het douchegordijn was niet ons ding (het verkleint de plaats snel als het naar binnen komt en is wat muf onderaan) en een lichtje in de douche zou ook niet slecht zijn (nu wat donker).
Het bed is een zetelbed. Dit lag voor ons niet al te goed, maar is voor een zetelbed best nog OK. De aanwezig topper was zeer welkom, zo ook het dekbed.

A phenomenal location right in the middle of the Domaine des Nobertins forest. Even though neighbors are “visible,” the orientation of the property means there’s almost no view into the property (just a small glimpse from the road).
At times, the silence is so profound that your ears almost start to ring—it’s fantastic! Occasionally, a car does pass by on the small road (which is fairly central to the property). Perhaps partly because of this, we didn’t spot any large animals, but we did see plenty of birds (great spotted woodpecker, jay, sparrows, titmice, etc.) and squirrels, and at dusk we saw bats (and a local cat).
Below the property (via some steep little paths), there’s a small river where there’s plenty of space to relax (and build little dams). This is also where many hiking trails start, so you don’t need a car to explore the area.
Nearby, there are the Neptune Caves and the Fairy Trail des Fonds de l’Eau, both of which are definitely worth a visit.
The village of Fumay (just across the French border) is ideal for shopping.

Fenomenale locatie midden in het bos van Domaine des Nobertins. Ook al zijn er buren "zichtbaar", inkijk is er door de oriëntatie bijna helemaal niet (klein stukje vanop de baan).
De stilte is bij momenten zo stil dat oren zowat beginnen tuten, fantastisch! Er is af en toe wel een wagen dat op het baantje passeert (vrij centraal baantje van het domein). Mogelijks mede hierdoor geen grote dieren kunnen spotten, maar wel heel wat vogels (grote bonte specht, gaai, musjes, mezen, ..) en ook eekhoorns en bij valavond vleermuizen (en een lokale poes).
Beneden het domein (via wat steile baantjes) loopt er een riviertje waar wat ruimte is om te chillen (en dammetjes te bouwen). Hier starten ook heel wat wandelingen, waardoor je de wagen niet nodig hebt om de buurt te verkennen.
In de buurt zijn er de Neptunus-grotten en ook een Elfjes-wandeling (Fairy Trail des Fonds de l'Eau) die zeker de moeite waard zijn.
Het dorpje Fumay (net over de Franse grens) is ideaal om inkopen te doen.

All in all, a great cottage—it’s cozy and charming. It might just be the nicest cottage in the park. It was a great choice to install large windows so you can look out at the woods from your living room without seeing any other vacation cottages. It really gives you the feeling that you’re away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. This is a major plus compared to other vacation parks. Unfortunately, there are no window screens on the windows and/or doors, which are definitely necessary in the middle of the woods ;)

Overal top huisje, het is knus en leuk. Misschien wel het mooiste huisje op het park. Hele goede keuze om grote raampartijen toe te passen zodat je vanuit je woonkamer uitkijkt op de bossen zonder dat je andere vakantiehuisjes ziet. Geeft echt een gevoel dat je even van de bewoonde wereld weg bent. Dit is een grote plus ten opzichte van andere vakantieparken. Helaas zitten er geen horren bij de ramen en/of deuren die echt wel nodig zijn midden in het bos ;)
