Nature house in Oudehorne

When you enter the cottage, the French doors opening onto the garden—with a view of the beautiful, expansive surroundings—immediately catch your eye. To the left is the kitchenette, equipped with kitchenware, an oven, a refrigerator, a coffee maker, an induction cooktop, and a kettle. There is a dining area in front of the large window. In the center of the room is a sitting area with two armchairs, a small table, and a TV. The large double bed is tucked away in the living-bedroom. From the bed, you have a beautiful view of the meadows and the Tjonger. The garden doors open directly onto the terrace—a place to enjoy the sun, the clouds, the water, the expansive surroundings, and, above all, the peace and quiet. On the ground floor, you’ll also find the bathroom with a shower and a separate toilet. The cottage is a freestanding structure on the large grounds of the characteristic lockkeeper’s house. This ensures plenty of privacy. Bed linens, towels, kitchen towels, and dish towels are included in the price. Breakfast, meals, and use of bicycles and a canoe are available for a fee upon request.

The nature house is situated in a unique location, on the De Tjonger waterway in Oudehorne near Heerenveen. This location is close to various nature reserves on a vast plain in the Tjonger Valley. From this beautiful spot, on the border of three municipalities in the heart of Southeast Friesland, you can head out in any direction for wonderful hiking, biking (including mountain biking), and boating trips. Near the lock, there are several mooring spots for boats. On warm days, a dip from the dock into the Tjonger offers a refreshing break. Wake up to the sound of the cuckoo. Young kestrels calling for food from their nests, along with other birds of prey in the area. Thousands of geese flying overhead and foraging. The high-pitched call of the kingfisher. These are sights and sounds that are by no means uncommon in the vicinity of this nature house. The owner is an avid birdwatcher and nature lover himself. He’ll be happy to tell you about the flora and fauna in the immediate vicinity.
