The Tjonger cottage is located in the countryside in Munnekeburen, South Friesland. The Tjonger cottage features a cozy kitchen with a refrigerator, stovetop, and dishwasher. From the living room, with its huge glass front, you’ll enjoy a stunning view of the deep garden. We’re a B&B, so breakfast is included! The Tjonger has a bedroom that sleeps 2 people, with comfortable box-spring beds. There’s a bunk bed in a sort of hallway, so up to four people can stay in this apartment. The living room is furnished with charming, repurposed, and refurbished pieces. Of course, there’s a lovely bathroom. Linens and bath towels are included in the price. If guests wish, we can serve a three-course meal at the B&B, taking any dietary restrictions into account. For longer stays, we can do your laundry if needed. There’s also the option to charge your (electric) car right outside the door.
Nature and surroundings
Munnekeburen is a wonderfully peaceful village. Our cottage is located at the entrance to the beautiful nature reserve “De Rottige Meente,” where you can enjoy wonderful walks and bike rides. There are many different kinds of birds and butterflies. If you’re lucky, you might spot roe deer, and there are even otters in the Rottige Meente. The forest ranger trail (Staatsbosbeheer) is well-known; it’s about a 15–20-kilometer walk that also goes around Brandemeer. Many people hiking the Zuiderzeepad find their way to us. The Stellingenpad, named “Hiking Trail of the Year” in 2023, also runs through the Rottige Meente. The Weerribben, which more people have heard of, are just 8 kilometers away. It’s wonderful to hike there, and you can also take a lovely boat tour (Staatsbosbeheer) or rent a small boat or canoe to explore the area on your own. There are just as many options by bike. Paul, one of the owners and an avid cyclist himself, would be happy to tell you about all the ways you can explore the area by bike.
