Welcome to explore Alentejo from the p.o.w of the shepherd - take walks on the soft hills, among the beautiful cork trees. Surrounded by peace, birdsong and silence. Go for a dip in the river. Visit the megalithic anta. Real Alentejo life in all its forms are at your reach. 130 km from Lisboa. It is a rustic adobe house (actually two houses) upgraded with respect for the original Monte qualities while renovated to function easily. The thick walls keep the big house cool even during hot days. Being the winter home of a nordic artist the house and gardens are full of creativity, surprises and unique beauty. Let yourself be inspired. Relax in the hammock, read a book in the shade of an olive tree. Make delicious food in the well equipped kitchen. In the valley below, behind the big orchard, off sight and sound, lives Abi, who prepares the house for you and leaves you in peace, but is at hand if you need something.
Nature and surroundings
The endless variety of sand beaches from Troia southward on to Vila Nova de Milfontes are 40 min to 90 min drive away. They are all amazingly different. Choose your favorite spot. Grandola, where the carnation revolution started, offers all shopping necessary, fruit, fish, meat - choose between small, friendly special shops or big supermarkets. Big outside market every month and great antique market equally. Azinheira dos Barros is the nearby small village. This is real Alentejo, the bar, the shop, the men chilling on benches in the shade and the women sweeping their doorsteps. World cultural heritage town Évora is a perfect day’s excursion. Countless megalithic sites can be found in that area.
