Nature house in Wezep

This nature house is a historic country estate in the Noord-Veluwe, featuring a large garden surrounded by a moat, set in a park-like landscape with meadows, forests, and hedgerows. Just like the neighbors in the coach house and the therapeutic farm, guests here can fully enjoy the space, tranquility, and history. So this is not a party venue! The 19th-century house has also retained its original interior. It is furnished as a family home, which the owners use as a vacation home themselves and rent out to other families the rest of the time. Some of the furnishings still date back to the 1960s or earlier. There are three bathrooms, and the three smaller rooms each have their own sink. Two “children’s rooms” in the attic offer less privacy than the four larger bedrooms. The kitchen is spacious and fully equipped. The entryway features a large table, and the cozy living room with a fireplace is furnished with leather armchairs. Bookshelves filled with old books and family portraits complete the picture.

Behind the house lies a large lawn dotted with spring flowers. A towering tulip tree dominates the garden, which also features a weeping beech and centuries-old red beeches. Squirrels, song thrushes, and woodpeckers are regular visitors here. Above the canal, a kingfisher sometimes darts by. Beyond the moat lie forests with many beech trees and hiking trails laid out centuries ago by regents. Holly trees in the undergrowth are characteristic of the old woodland, where Solomon’s seal and lilies also grow, out of reach of the grazing horses. Heading south, the hiker reaches a damp coppice forest, where the trunks of the alders are covered with sphagnum moss and ferns. Roe deer take shelter in the undergrowth. Adjacent to it lies an old landscape park with a large pond inhabited by black woodpeckers, great spotted woodpeckers, goshawks, and pine martens. Further south, an oak-lined avenue with yellow-flowering broom leads to the pine trees on the sandy hills of the Veluwe.
