Nature house in Makkinga

This is truly a hidden gem. It’s located in Johan and Ina’s backyard, but thanks to the enormous lot, you’ll feel like you’re in a private forest! The cottage is well-maintained, nicely decorated, and everything works perfectly. There’s even a sauna for those who enjoy it. Plenty of seating areas around the cottage, and a covered outdoor seating area for inclement weather or in the evening. The wallabies really make it feel like a trip abroad. It’s hilarious to watch these little creatures go about their business around sunset! While we were watching the wallabies, a family of eight fallow deer suddenly appeared right next to us—so special!

Dit is echt een verborgen pareltje. In de achtertuin van Johan en Ina, maar door het enorme perceel waan je in een privébos! Goed verzorgd huisje, leuke inrichting en alles werkt goed. Zelfs een sauna voor de liefhebber. Heel veel zitjes rond het huisje en ook een overkapte buiten zit-plek bij slecht weer of in de avond. De wallaby’s maken het echt als een buitenland ervaring. Hilarisch om dit dierenvolkje bezig te zien rond zonsondergang! Terwijl wij naar de wallaby’s keken stond er ineens ook een familie van 8 damherten naast ons, zo bijzonder!

Just a short walk or bike ride, and you’ll find yourself surrounded by even more of the Drents Friese Wold’s beautiful nature.

Everything was great—and even better than I expected.

Alles was er fijn en nog veel fijner dan verwacht.

What a lovely place—even better than we’d imagined after booking the cottage. So much space, so many extras, and such peace and greenery—all to ourselves. A fantastic, tree-lined spot to unwind in beautiful Friesland. The cottage is very well-equipped—nothing was missing, not even a coffee machine with fresh beans and delicious coffee. We also thoroughly enjoyed using the private sauna, and my mother had a lovely nap in the new covered “forest seating area” with a beautiful view of the greenery. The owner, Johan, is very warm and told us a lot about how this place came to be. We hit it off right away. And how cool that there are also wallabies living in the wild. We’d love to come back again.

Wat een fijne plek, nog veel fijner dan we van te voren dachten nadat we het huisje geboekt hadden. Zoveel ruimte en extra's en rust en groen. Allemaal voor ons. Een fantastische boomrijke plek om tot rust te komen in het mooie Friesland. Het huisje is heel goed uitgerust, niets ontbrak, zelf een koffiemachine met verse bonen en heerlijke koffie. Heerlijk ook gebruik gemaakt van de privé sauna en mijn moeder heeft lekker liggen slapen in de nieuwe overdekte 'boszitplek' met prachtig groen uitzicht. De eigenaar Johan is heel hartelijk en heeft ons veel verteld over hoe deze plek tot stand is gekomen. Het klikte goed. En hoe leuk dat er ook Wallabies in het wild wonen. We komen heel graag nog een keertje terug.

In addition, the cottage itself feels luxurious, with a great sofa, chairs, kitchen, and coffee maker—and especially thanks to the attached sauna.
Our only comment is that the driveway is difficult to navigate, especially with a slightly larger car. Roadwork made turning around even more difficult—fortunately, the work was completed by the end of our stay.

We’d definitely stay here again.

Ter aanvulling, huisje zelf voelt luxe aan met prima bank/stoelen/keuken/koffiemachine en zeker ook door de aangebouwde sauna.
Enige commentaar is de moeilijke inrit, zeker met een iets grotere auto. Door werkzaamheden aan de weg was de draai nog wat lastiger - deze waren gelukkig aan het einde van ons verblijf gereed.

What a wonderful nature house to truly unwind. The backyard is a small forest, making you feel completely secluded from the outside world. And the wallabies roaming around make this experience extra special.
The hosts were very attentive and hospitable; we had several inspiring conversations with them.
The Drents-Fries Wold is nearby and perfect for bike rides and hikes.

Wat een heerlijk natuurhuisje om helemaal tot rust te komen. De achtertuin is een klein bos waardoor je je geheel afgezonderd voelt van de bewoonde wereld. En de rondlopende wallabies maken deze ervaring extra bijzonder.
Gastheer & dame waren zeer zorgzaam en gastvrij; een aantal inspirerende gesprekken mee gehad.
De Drents-Fries wold is vlakbij en zeer geschikt voor fietstochten en wandelingen.
