Feel welcome in the Frisian countryside. Until 1979 this farm was still in use as a livestock farm, then the animals were sold, but the house remained. After 15 years of living elsewhere, I (Wietske) now live with my husband in my childhood home again and we would like to share it with other people looking for peace and quiet. The neighbors live miles away and the house is on a canal on a dead end road, so no traffic except cyclists and pedestrians. In part of the barn is a cottage for guests, including a small kitchenette in the sitting room and a luxury bathroom with sauna and bathtub. There are 2 bedrooms. In hot summers the cottage is nice and cool (north-east side of the house). The cottage has its own entrance. In the yard live a cat and usually chickens. Hence, pets are difficult to bring. Bath and bed linens are provided in the cottage. Fiber optic connection is available for good internet.
Nature and surroundings
There are numerous beautiful cycling routes to enjoy the beautiful Frisian nature, culture lovers can for example go to Dokkum (8 km) or Leeuwarden (25km). The farm lies on the 'Petsleat', a canal that connects the Bergumermeer with the Lauwersmeer. There are therefore wonderful canoe or boat trips to be made. A boat ramp is located 400 meters from the house. You can then for example go to the Otto Wiersema Reserve, a particularly beautiful and peaceful nature reserve. Furthermore, Ameland and Schiermonnikoog are nice destinations for a day out. But fishing or relaxing in and around the cottage is also possible. The nature house has access to a private garden. In the backyard of the farm we are working on a mini-food forest: as much diversity as possible for healthy soil and food for people and animals. By now there are over 60 different food trees, shrubs and plants in our garden, in the coming years this will be further expanded.
