Nature and surroundings
This is a fort that is part of the New Dutch Waterline, and is located in Vuren in the municipality of West Betuwe in the Dutch province of Gelderland. The fort was built in 1844 on the Waaldijk, it served to protect Gorinchem and to prevent the enemy from moving west. In 1847-1849, a bombproof tower was built on top of the fort. A moat was dug around the tower, after which it could only be reached by a drawbridge. In 1873-1879, the bombproof tower was partially demolished because it was too vulnerable. The top floor was removed and the contrescarp gallery was added. The tower fort, contrescarp gallery and barracks housed up to 420 men and 30 pieces of artillery. The fort at Vuren would be used during the various mobilizations and suffered a German air attack in 1940. It remained in German hands until the final days before liberation and would thereafter serve to protect various "error

Prachtig! Oud en nieuw gaan hier goed samen.

Het appartement/huisje is heel comfortabel en architectonisch echt fantastisch.
Bijzondere plek, heel rustig. Voor echte natuur moet je wel even op pad (met fiets of auto).

Een heel mooi modern huis. De woonkamer is nog echt een oud fort, de rest is modern opgeknapt en ziet er zeer strak uit. Door de raampartijen hoog tegen het plafond komt super veel licht binnen en heb je geen gevoel dat je opgesloten zit in een betonnen fort.
Het fort ligt op een afgesloten eiland langs de waal.
