Nature house in Rheden

The cottage’s interior is quite dated. The bedroom and bathroom smelled damp and musty.
The couch isn’t comfortable—the seat is too deep for someone who isn’t very tall—and the cushions didn’t really help.
In the kitchen, we were missing a few items (snacks; a casserole dish for pasta sauce or a one-pot meal—we had to use a saucepan instead; some pots didn’t have lids; pot holders; a bread knife).
Because the sun is lower in the sky in September, there wasn’t much sunlight in the garden, which also made it quite dark inside.
There’s a large gap in the sliding glass door; it doesn’t close properly at all (it didn’t really bother us because it didn’t get very cold, but we don’t think that would be okay in the winter).
To have a little space to cook, we had to remove the microwave from the countertop.
For an entire week, there was only one large towel per person, and no extra trash bags—that’s pretty sparse.
Parking instructions for the second car were vague: according to the owner, it was supposed to be at the building with the white flag, but we had to move it because of a truck.

Landlord’s response:
We will look into the points you raised, although we don’t quite recognize the situation you described. As an extra service, we did bring an additional roll of trash bags; the number of towels was specified in the email, and we are not a hotel—perhaps you had expected that level of service. The car did indeed have to be moved aside briefly for the laundry; we hadn’t expected you to take such issue with that.

De inrichting van het huisje is behoorlijk gedateerd. De slaapkamer en badkamer roken vochtig en muf.
De bank zit niet lekker, de zitting is te diep voor iemand die niet heel lang is, en de kussens konden het niet echt oplossen.
In de keuken misten we wat spullen (hapjes/braadpan voor een pastasaus of eenpansgerecht, moest dan maar in een kookpan; sommige pannen hadden geen deksel; pannenlappen; broodmes).
Doordat de zon in september lager staat, was er weinig zon in de tuin, het was daardoor ook binnen vrij donker.
Bij de schuifpui zit een grote kier, sluit absoluut niet goed (hadden we niet echt last van doordat het niet echt koud werd, maar lijkt ons in de winter echt niet oké).
Om een beetje ruimte te hebben om te koken, moesten we de magnetron van het aanrecht halen.
Voor een hele week was er p.p. maar 1 grote handdoek, en geen extra vuilzakken = karig.
Parkeeraanwijzing tweede auto vaag: volgens eigenaar bij gebouw met witte vlag, maar moest weg i.v.m. vrachtwagen.

Reactie van verhuurder:
Wij zullen de punten nalopen waar u kritiek op had, al herkennen wij ons niet zo in de geschetste situatie. Er is als extra service nog een rolletje vuilniszakken gebracht, het aantal handdoeken is in de mail aangegeven en wij zijn geen hotel, wellicht dat u die service had verwacht. De auto moest inderdaad even aan de kant voor de wasserij, wij hadden niet verwacht dat u daar zo over zou vallen.

A lovely, peaceful spot; the cottage has a nice garden. It was usually wonderfully quiet there, and the small park is peaceful too. It’s great that you can walk or bike right into the woods from the cottage and hike or bike all the way to the Posbank and even further. It’s also nice that the Rheden train station is nearby; from there, you can get to Arnhem in no time by train. It can get very crowded on and around the Posbank, so it’s great that you can set out right from your cottage without worrying about parking.

Fijne, rustige plek, het huisje heeft een fijne tuin. Het was er meestal heerlijk stil en het kleinschalige park is ook rustig. Heerlijk dat je zo vanuit het huisje het bos in loopt/fietst en op de Posbank en nog veel verder kunt wandelen of fietsen. Ook fijn dat station Rheden dichtbij is, vandaar ben je zo met de trein in Arnhem. Op en rond de Posbank kan het heel erg druk zijn, dan is het heel fijn dat je vanuit je huisje op pad kunt, zonder parkeerstress.

Lots of nature and open space, though it’s on a busy street. There’s a lot going on. It’s quiet in the early morning and in the evening, though.

Knus, gezellig en schoon huisje met veel privacy en mooi groen in rustig park, aan de rand van de prachtige Posbank, schaapskooi nabij maar ook restaurants, treinstation, bakker en supermarkt.
