Nature house in Geesteren

Our property is located in the hamlet of Nettelhorst, situated in the quiet area between Lochem and Geesteren, surrounded by the characteristic bocage landscape of the Achterhoek, and nestled within a network of hiking and biking trails. In the middle of the more than 1-hectare food forest currently under development stands a rustic farmhouse from 1931 that has been divided; we have converted the completely separate front section of the farmhouse into a charming vacation home for 2 people. This stylish cottage features a spacious garden, a sturdy kitchen, a cozy living room, a bedroom with an oak double bed and fresh linens, a shower, and a separate toilet. If desired, the nature house can be configured with two single bedrooms. The ceilings are filled with a layer of paper flakes, the exterior walls are insulated with wood fiber boards and equipped with wall heating, and all walls are plastered with clay, which ensures a wonderful experience year-round—refreshingly cool in the summer and comfortably warm in the winter.

Our farm is located on the outskirts of the municipality of Berkelland, near the Bolksbeek, at junction 43 of the regional cycling route network; the Boereneschpad, a traditional wooden-shoe trail, runs along the end of the street. All of this makes the area ideal for cycling, hiking, relaxing, or a romantic weekend getaway. In the immediate vicinity, you can enjoy endless walks through the woods and admire many beautiful centuries-old estates and castles. The charming village square of Lochem (with a train station) is 7 km away, and the picturesque village of Geesteren was named “Gelderland’s most beautiful village” in 2017. Nearby Zutphen (25 km), just on the right side of the IJssel River, is the urban gem of the east. We’ve planted about 1,200 small trees and shrubs on our former lawn, and over the coming years, they’ll grow into a full-fledged food forest. All in all, it’s a wonderful spot for a short vacation or a weekend getaway!
