Nature house in MONTEBRACCO, BARGE

In an unspoiled corner of the Italian Alps, facing Mount Monviso, we welcome you to our nature houses, a small hamlet nestled in the woods at an elevation of 900 meters, accessible via a dirt road just over 1 km long—a 10-minute drive or about a 20-minute walk from the parking lot in the square of the Certosa di Mombracco in the municipality of Barge, Cuneo. The hamlet, which was abandoned at the time of purchase, has retained its original character; the renovation work was carried out using green building practices, incorporating stone, wood, lime, eco-friendly paints, and natural fibers for insulation. The hamlet consists of a large, long house, a small cottage for two people, and the house where we live. The double cottage, for two people, features a large bedroom, a kitchen, a bathroom with a tub, and a large covered terrace with a view of the mountains. In the winter, heating is provided by wood and gas. Amid the silence of the woods, we offer a peaceful and serene stay.

The ideal place for a weekend in the mountains, a relaxing week in harmony with nature, and even for work groups needing a few days of seclusion. We have dark, starry, and silent nights, punctuated by the hooting of owls, and breathtaking sunrises that set Monviso ablaze. A 15-minute walk from the houses lies the small village of Certosa di Mombracco, home to a 12th-century monastery. Next to the monastery is the Trappa trattoria, where you can enjoy home-style Piedmontese cuisine in the shade of the plane trees. On Montebracco, you can enjoy countless outdoor activities: hiking and mountain biking on marked trails, rock climbing, or simply strolling to discover traces of rural life linked to stonework, rock carvings, and Alpine architecture. It serves as a “base camp” for the traditional Viso circuit or the ascent to the summit. Between Barge and Revello, about a half-hour drive away, you can visit the magnificent Abbey of Staffarda.
