Located on the border of Southwest Drenthe and Southeast Friesland is the National Park Drents-Friese Wold, which is one of the largest nature reserves in the Netherlands. In 2000 over 6000 hectares of forest, heathland, shifting sands and stream valley grasslands were designated as National Park. For many special plants and animals the Drents Friese Wold is an attractive habitat. For nature lovers there is much to experience. Bike paths, hiking trails, a wide range of bridle paths (75 km!) and a visitor center offer you the opportunity to discover the nature of the national park. In the vicinity of the Drents Friese Wold, in addition to hiking, cycling and horseback riding, you can also make other fun trips: Drents Museum, recreation area Aekingerzand, recreation area Blauwe Meer, forest pool Appelscha, visit of megalithic tombs, Shakespeare Outdoor Theater at Diever, Groninger Museum and Groninger city center and several good restaurants in the area.
