Nature house in Kekerdom

As of 5-02-2024 refurbished. In Kekerdom, under the smoke of Nijmegen and within cycling distance of Millingen aan de Rijn, is located just outside the dike at the gate of nature reserve "The Millingerwaard" this monumental semi-detached house. Through the shared front door you enter the hall, where both cottages have their own lockable entrance door. There is a large shared garden, but each cottage has its own seating area. The nature house labeled "Natura speculum creatoris" (nature is the mirror image of creation) was formerly used as a farm, but is now available for you to use as a nature house! From the cottage you step directly into the worth or start your bike ride on the dikes along the great rivers. You can swim within walking distance in one of the lakes in the nature reserve. For your wet and dry you can visit "the Millinger Theetuin" or "the worth of Kekerdom". Did you know that you have the greatest chance of seeing a beaver in the very early morning or in the evening hours?

The Millingerwaard is a nature reserve in Gelderland and is part of the Gelderse Poort, designated as a Natura 2000 area. The area is located west of Millingen in the Ooijpolder on the river Waal and is about 800 hectares in size. The Millingerwaard is managed by the World Wildlife Fund and Staatsbosbeheer and the intention is to allow nature to take its course as much as possible. Eighty acres consist of a forest reserve with willow trees and the remainder consists of marsh, meadows, forest and surface water. The Gelderse Poort is home to about 160 Konik horses and 120 Galloways. In the Millingerwaard beavers have been released and there have been sightings of the lesser weathervane butterfly and the wood bat. Along the Waal, sand drift is taking place and river dunes have formed. There are a few farms and houses in the area where about 20 people live. The Millinger Tea Garden is also located in the Millingerwaard and can be reached on foot from the cottage.
