Châtaignier is a charming, newly decorated three-bedroom family gîte, ideally suited to two adults and two children looking for a proper escape into the French countryside. The master bedroom has a generous double bed; the other two rooms have pretty vintage French double beds with new mattresses — perfect for children or teenagers. A family shower room upstairs and a handy extra WC downstairs. The spacious kitchen and living room has everything you need for lazy breakfasts, rainy day lunches and unhurried suppers made with local market ingredients. For film nights we've kept the DVD player — the whole family can watch the same thing together for a change. Outside, your private terrace with garden furniture and exclusive BBQ sits right on the edge of 8 hectares of rewilded nature reserve. Swap screens for streams — this is where children remember that the outside world is more interesting than a phone. Free WiFi, bed linen and towels included. Dogs welcome.
Nature and surroundings
8ha of rewilded land in the Parc Naturel Régional Périgord-Limousin surround the gîtes — wildflower meadows with mown paths winding through them, ancient woodland, and new ponds already alive with pool frogs, agile frogs and great diving beetles. The River Bandiat, one of only eight rivers in France to host the freshwater pearl mussel, flows through the heart of the site. 68 species of butterfly have been recorded here. Red squirrels play in the trees, fire salamanders emerge at dusk, golden orioles call from the canopy and short-toed eagles patrol the thermals overhead. This is not a managed nature experience — it is the real thing, and it will reset your idea of what the natural world is supposed to look like. We work every day to make the site richer. We dig new ponds, manage our meadows with horses & donkeys, and take a rewilding approach to everything — even the garden. Nik offers free guided nature walks for all guests. Just ask. This year, for the first time a nightingale sang.

Gezellige, goed uitgeruste gite met alle comfort en goede bedden. Schaduwrijk privaat terras met barbecue. Alles hygiënisch en brandschoon.
Zeer gastvrije Britse eigenaars (Nik en Heidi) die het domein met hart en ziel onderhouden en veel kennis hebben over de regio. Er worden gezellige pizza-avonden georganiseerd en maaltijden bereid op aanvraag. De kinderen mochten een ritje maken op de ezels en waren grote fan van de twee biggetjes die op het domein wonen. Verkoelend en schoon zwembad. Een absolute 'coup de coeur' voor wie houdt van rust en natuur.Prachtige bosrijke omgeving met heel diverse fauna en flora: vlinders, vogels, riviertjes, weilanden, bloemen. Op het domein zelf prachtige tuin met fruitbomen en aangrenzend wandelgebied. Weinig toeristische regio met veel verborgen schatten en mooie dorpjes.
