This nature house is located in the back part of the Great Barn of a national monumental farm. It is an independent apartment with its own entrance. On the ground floor there are two 2-bedrooms, each with its own bathroom, and upstairs a spacious sitting room with dining area and open kitchen, and a wide view of the estate. The whole is contemporary furnished by Pilat&Pilat and has very comfortable box-spring beds. In the bookcase you will find lots of information about the area. In the quiet garden are several seating areas in sun and shade, with a beautiful view of the surroundings. Enjoy the many birds around the yard - especially the young barn owls doing their flight exercises in the summer evenings is a fun experience. Quilts (comforters), linen, bedding, towels for the bathroom and for the kitchen are provided.
Nature and surroundings
The estate is located in the Grootegastermolenpolder nature reserve, part of the Netherlands Nature Network. In the nature reserve are some nice hiking trails, such as the Rikkerdapad and the Abel Tasman discovery trail, part of the network Westerkwartierplus trails. The Opende barefoot trail is also nearby, as are several bicycle junctions. The estate is on the border of the open clay area of the Hogeland and Northeast Friesland and the Lauwersmeer area, and the sheltered coulisse landscape of the Northern Frisian Woods. It is only a half-hour drive to the port of Lauwersoog, making Schiermonnikoog a popular day trip. But a visit to Zoutkamp, the Tea Museum in Houwerzijl, the protected villagescapes of Ee and Niehove, Noordpolderzijl, and the seal sanctuary Pieterburen are also popular destinations. Several fine restaurants, including Michelin star chefs are less than a half-hour drive away.
