Welcome to our cozy nature house! Just a stone’s throw from the Waal River, in the heart of a rural area, lies the winding Waaldijk. On one side you’ll see orchards, and on the other, the beautiful floodplains of the Waal. The cottage is situated along that dike: a cozy Bommels dike cottage, available exclusively to guests. Interested? Check to see if your desired dates are still available—we’d love to welcome you as our guest. During the 2019 renovation, only the exterior walls remained standing, and even those were thoroughly renovated! Inside, it’s surprisingly spacious with Scandinavian-style decor. You’ll find a sitting area, a dining table, a loft that serves as a bedroom (with air conditioning starting in 2027), a well-equipped kitchen, a bathroom, a TV, and reliable Wi-Fi. The ground floor has radiant floor heating. We live in the “big” house next to the nature house. You won’t be bothered by us at all, but we’re happy to offer advice and help make your stay as pleasant as possible!
Nature and surroundings
If you’re a nature lover, this nature house is perfect for beautiful bike rides and hikes. If you want to stay close to home, the Waal floodplains begin right outside the door. Nearby is the Hurnse Kil, the nature reserve near our village of Hurwenen. It was formed in 1639 in a cut-off branch of the Waal River. When the river is in flood, water flows through the area. The Hurnse Kil is an exceptionally rich nature reserve and a beloved spot for birds and nature lovers—it’s truly beautiful! If you’d like to venture a bit further, the Bommelerwaard region itself and the Land van Maas en Waal offer countless opportunities for cycling trips. Restaurants are within walking and biking distance, and you’ll find a truly lively cultural atmosphere in the charming town of Zaltbommel, which is just a short bike ride away. If you really want to go to “the city,” ’s-Hertogenbosch is only a 20-minute drive away. And if you don’t feel like doing any of that, just stay right in the cottage or, when the weather’s nice, find a cozy spot in the garden.
