Nature house in Wichmond

It's a simple but neat log cabin
with everything you basically need. The screen doors and windows are very nice. We enjoyed a wonderful vacation there.

Het is een basic maar nette blokhut
met alles wat je in principe nodig hebt. De horren voor de ramen en de deur zijn erg prettig. Wij hebben er genoten van een heerlijke vakantie.

The cottage is in a lovely, peaceful spot next to a field. We saw hares, roe deer, and many birds there every day. The hiking and biking trails of the Hackfort estate start almost right around the corner. In short, it’s a wonderful spot for those who love peace and nature. You can pick up organic vegetables at Hackfort Castle, and for other groceries, the charming town of Vorden is just 2 km away. Be sure to try the bread from Besseling Bakery and Jerome’s homemade nougat in Wichmond.
The terrace at Ludger’s is also highly recommended. Even on hot days, it’s nice to sit there under the trees...

Het huisje is op een heerlijke en rustige plek aan het veld. Wij zagen er dagelijks hazen en reewild en vele vogels. Bijna direct om de hoek beginnen de wandel/fietspaden van landgoed Hackfort. Kortom voor rust- en natuurliefhebbers een prachtige plek. De bio groente haal je bij kasteel Hackfort en voor de overige boofschappen ben je binnen 2 km in het gezellige Vorden. Brood van bakker Besseling en de zelfgemaakte nougat van Jerome in Wichmond zeker doen.
Ook het terras bij Ludger is een aanrader. Ook op warme dagen zit je daar lekker onder de bomen...

With a little luck, our little bunny will live to be about seven years old.

We’ve settled in the Achterhoek. The little cottage where we’re staying for a week overlooks a meadow that’s part of the beautiful Hackfort estate. The nature reserve (complete with a castle) managed by Natuurmonumenten is dotted with old deciduous forests interspersed with fields, hedgerows, and meadows. We read in a booklet that this centuries-old natural beauty is thanks to a particularly headstrong baron who held back the negative aspects of progress. We need more headstrong barons.
From the cottage, we look out over a ditch lined with a few pollarded willows. It’s a shame that they’re already being “cleared” at this time of year. In the reed bed—which has since disappeared—I used to hear the little reed warbler sing regularly. From a woodshed, a weasel (it must be one) dashes out three times in the evening twilight toward the ditch, only to vanish into the bank. But the most beautiful sight is the hare.

Met een beetje geluk wordt ons haasje een jaar of zeven oud.

We zijn neergestreken in de Achterhoek. Het huisje waar we een weekje in bivakkeren kijkt uit op een weiland dat hoort bij het schitterende landgoed Hackfort. Het natuurgebied (mét kasteel) van Natuurmonumenten is bestrooid met oude loofhoutbossen afgewisseld met akkers, houtwallen en weilanden. We lezen in een boekje dat de eeuwenoude natuurpracht te danken is aan een bijzonder eigenwijze baron die negatieve aspecten van vooruitgang tegenhield. We hebben meer eigenwijze baronnen nodig.
Vanuit het huisje kijken we uit op een sloot met enkele knotwilgjes. Jammer dat hij net in deze tijd van het jaar al wordt ‘geveegd’. In de nu verdwenen rietkraag hoorde ik regelmatig de kleine karekiet zingen. Vanuit een houthokje sprint in de avondschemer tot drie keer toe een wezel (moet wel) naar de sloot om in de kant te verdwijnen. Maar het mooist is de haas.
