The elevated nature house has unobstructed views of the countryside behind and is located directly on a large cycling and hiking trail network, including the Pieterpad. It lies together with other cottages on the park "Mooi Schipborg", 700 meters from restaurant "The Drentsche Aa". Supermarkets Jumbo, AH and other facilities are in Zuidlaren. 20 minutes away by bus or car are the city of Groningen and Assen. The cottage itself is mainly in the shade so it never gets too hot inside. In April 2021 a new kitchen was installed with induction and dishwasher. The large terrace behind is in the sun for most of the day. The cottage has a modern bathroom with one bedroom and an additional room with linen closet and worktop, where there is also space for suitcases. Bed linen and other textiles are included. There is a high-speed internet connection via fiber optics and interactive TV. There are 2 non-electric bikes: a women's and men's bike for rent for a small fee.
Nature and surroundings
The nature house is located in the middle of the national stream and esdorpen landscape and is the best preserved landscape in Western Europe, Near the house is the Kniphorst/Strubbenbos with jagged oaks. Nowhere in our country can you find so many archaeological monuments together: 2 dolmens and about 60 burial mounds, as well as numerous old field roads. A stone's throw from the cottage is the Drentsche Aa, one of the last intact stream valleys in the Netherlands. Its natural values are so great that the area is also a core area of Natura 2000. Here you can see special nature, such as the dandelion meadows along streams, old forests and springs, sparse grasslands on the flanks and the heaths of the Balloër- and Eexterveld. The park has the highest number of plant species per ha. of Drenthe. Striking are the hay fields, which are colored purple in spring by the thousands of flowering orchids. But the area is also of great importance for fish, birds, butterflies, dragonflies and reptiles.
