Nature house in Appelscha

The nature house is housed in part of an old school and is centrally located in the northern Netherlands. The guesthouse has a spacious bedroom, a living room with wood stove, a dining room and a luxurious bathroom with large bathtub and rain shower (bath linen is provided). The rooms of the nature house are facing south, overlooking the garden and are sunny, spacious and bright. The living room also has two comfortable (double) sofa beds, so that a total of four people can stay overnight. Breakfast and meals are not included, but there is an extensive kitchen with stove, refrigerator, microwave, airfryer and dishwasher. In the garden there is a labyrinth, an orchard, a flower and vegetable garden, chickens and a pond. It still gets really dark here, so it is possible to see the mists of the Milky Way on clear evenings. Guests are welcome in the garden and at the pond (at their own responsibility). There is a private entrance, so you can come and go.

Appelscha is traditionally an air spa and is still known for its silence and clean air. The Drents-Friese Wold is characterized by its vast diversity, with heathland and sheep herding on the Doldersumse Veld, sand drifts De Kale Duinen and the Canada Lake, in which to swim in the summer. There are a number of special lookout towers to get a good view of the area. The Fochteloërveen is a unique raised bog area where cranes breed, among other things. There are many outdoor sports in Appelscha, such as mountain biking, cycling, hiking and canoeing. The village is located on the old Turfroute. A 15-minute drive away is Veenhuizen, a former penal colony that is on UNESCO's provisional World Heritage List. Together with the other nearby ex-colonies Frederiksoord and Wilhelminaoord in Drenthe, they once formed the Koloniën van de Maatschappij van Weldadigheid.
