The farmhouse was burned down in 1924 and converted into the impressive nature house it is today. The landlords completely renovated the house to a high standard. Many places were visited where a fireplace, plumbing and flooring could be found. The interior walls are made of cob (sand, clay and straw) giving the house a warm and authentic atmosphere. The B&B has a private garden, several sitting areas and a private entrance. The rooms are decorated to a very high standard and with tremendous attention to detail. The very comfortable beds are made with beautiful linen and there are two bathrooms. There are two large bedrooms (28 m² and 32 m²) upstairs and one of them also serves as a sitting room with TV. The sitting/bedroom is fusion style, a bit like the kitchen! Downstairs is a fantastic, hand-built, oak kitchen (20 m²) with everything you need.
Nature and surroundings
Tonden is a small village. The nature house is on the edge of the center. There are no stores or pubs; you will have to go to Zutphen or one of the other villages for those amenities. The countryside and forests are nearby and close by. Zutphen, a medieval country town, is about six kilometers from the house and you can see the skyline from the nature house. There are beautiful walks in the area and it's a great place for bike rides. This is a relaxing place, a great place for peace and quiet, but with the opportunity to visit beautiful and interesting cities. Nothing is far away in the Netherlands, so a day trip to Amsterdam or one of the other cities is possible.
