Situated on open waterways, this beautiful, nationally designated historic farmhouse from 1855 features a lovely guest suite on the first floor. A unique place with plenty of character. Quietly situated and on the outskirts of the village of Hitzum. In this nature house, you can truly enjoy the peace and quiet and the beautiful, rural views to the fullest. Relax in the garden and the surrounding area. On summer evenings, you can use the patio heater! From here, you can go on beautiful walks and bike rides. The hosts provide two city bikes free of charge. Touring bikes are available for rent in the nearby area. The village of Hitzum is located exactly between two of the Frisian Eleven Cities: the historic city of Franeker and the coastal town of Harlingen with its beautiful, old town center. From Harlingen, you can also take the ferry for a day trip to the islands of Terschelling or Vlieland. If you love animals, you’ve come to the right place! The hosts have two sweet, enthusiastic dogs, a cat, chickens, ponies, and horses. If you’d like, you can interact with them. Horseback riding lessons and trail rides are available for guests. Within walking distance, you’ll find a fun playground, a bocce court, a tea garden, an orchard with a sheep pasture, and boat rentals.

This area is the gateway to the Wadden Sea landscape—an open landscape that has been shaped by human hands over the centuries. The sea has been tamed, but the former dynamism of this area can still be experienced. Dikes, mounds, polders, and salt marsh ridges are clearly visible across the landscape. Enjoy the impressive views, including the Wadden Dike on the horizon, and unwind. This region is home to important breeding grounds for both mudflat and meadow birds. In the spring, it teems with black-tailed godwits, redshanks, oystercatchers, and lapwings. The common tern and waders such as the little ringed plover and the black-winged stilt also inhabit the wet meadows in large numbers. In the fall, the peregrine falcon hunts wigeons and golden plovers. The white-fronted goose and the barnacle goose are regular visitors to the area in winter. From the garden or the window, you can see the large, imposing marsh harrier hunting mice and rabbits across the meadows. You’ll regularly spot hares darting through the meadows. Sparrows and great tits breed here under the roof tiles and nest in the hawthorn hedge. You’ll also find woodpeckers, herons, ducks, and wood pigeons around the farm. This region is truly a bird paradise all year round.
