Welcome to the northernmost nature house on the Dutch mainland! Built in 1932 but completely renovated inside while maintaining its authentic atmosphere. The living room is bright and has wide views of the Lauwerpolder. The open kitchen and large dining table invite you to long and cozy meals. There is a small library and many (outdoor) toys for children of all ages. The downstairs bedroom has large patio doors to the terrace, where you look out over an expansive lawn with chestnuts and fruit trees. The spacious bathroom offers a bathtub, a separate rain shower and a toilet. Upstairs are two cozy bedrooms with old wooden cockerel beams and beds with lovely mattresses. The nature house served as a worker's cottage well into the last century. The lady of the house took care of the sheep, her husband worked for the farmer. Feel at home in their house and enjoy the peace, the Wad and nature!

Nature and surroundings

The nature house is located in a two-acre green oasis in the typical Groninger polder landscape right next to the Wadden Sea. Reclaimed in 1892 and for a long time a meadow with sheep, it has now become a mini-wilderness, where you wake up to a cacophony of birdsong and bleating sheep on the sea dike. There is often a jump of deer to be seen and you might even spot the Groningen Big Five: deer, fox, hare, buzzard and pheasant! Several paths lead you to a large pond, gnarled pollard willows and other unexpected discoveries such as the old dobbe, a watering place for sheep. A true Mecca for birdwatchers and nowhere in the Netherlands can you see more stars than in this beautiful place!

The cottage is wonderfully spacious, complete and has a homey feel. We had the wood stove on every day. Good beds, fully equipped kitchen and luxurious bathroom. Nice couches in the living room. The TV could use an upgrade.

The cottage is very secluded and surrounded by the vastness of the Hogeland. Wild geese, deer and hares were around every day. At night there was also a fox! The area around the cottage was very dark at night though. I would have liked some more lighting for while walking the dog.We were not bothered by fireworks on New Year's Eve. However, carbide was shot at surrounding farms, including before and after New Year's Eve. But with good outlet timing we were able to circumvent that. The dog is not allowed in part of the garden (nature reserve) and on the dike. This limited the hiking possibilities in the immediate area quite a bit.

A nice house, comfortable and well done. The location is unprecedented so on the dike and views would be as you would hope in the "high country.

Beautiful house in an impressive setting, we were lucky with beautiful cold but clear weather and what a view, sunrise and especially sunsets and birds flying by! Comfortable house, nice to get warm with the wood stove, complete kitchen, we would love to come back!
