Nature house in Readtsjerk (Roodkerk)

In this farmhouse, the former goat barn has been converted into an apartment/guesthouse with its own entrance on the south-facing garden side. The nature house is a two-person accommodation featuring a fully equipped kitchen on the ground floor with a dining table, a sitting area, and a bathroom with a shower, toilet, and sink. A radio, TV, and Wi-Fi are also available. Last year, the kitchen was equipped with a new induction cooktop, oven, and refrigerator; this year, a freezer was added as well. The loft has two single box-spring beds, which can also be made up as one large bed. For guests who have difficulty climbing stairs, there is a (sleeper) sofa on the ground floor.On the sunny side of the apartment is a terrace with seating where you can enjoy a lovely breakfast. A large portion of the garden (with a gazebo) is fenced off for guests’ exclusive use. From the nature house and garden, guests have a sweeping view of meadows and the edge of the forest in the distance.

On the edge of the Frisian Woods, between Leeuwarden and Dokkum, lies the rural village of Readtsjerk (Roodkerk) with its centuries-old church. Less than 50 meters away, you’ll find the nature house. The surrounding area is perfect for exploring by bike, hiking, and/or taking scenic drives (maps and route guides are available in the modest library). You can enjoy the Frisian countryside with its flora and fauna, sweeping views, and the “smûke” (coziness) of the Trynwâlden, as the region is called. A little further away lie the Wadden Sea and the islands with their unique natural landscapes. By car, you can reach the ferries to Ameland and Schiermonnikoog in half an hour. Nearby are the Bûtenfjild nature reserve and the small lake Swarte Broek. A bike ride through the fields takes you to the village of Feanwâldsterwâl, where you can enjoy a meal and a drink at the village café, and you can rent canoes and/or electric boats to explore the area from the water.
