Nature house in Le Riols Bas

This nature house is a maison de maître, a mansion built in 1869, located on the river Aveyron, close to Varen and further the beautiful Saint Antonin Noble Val and Cordes-sur-Ciel. From the house there is a view of the garden and the village (10 houses), the fields and the surrounding hills. The house is sturdy, authentic and breathes an atmosphere of peace and simplicity. There is a lot of space from the bedrooms to living kitchen, the sitting- game room and the open garden. The nature house is in an ideal location: in a completely quiet place, without traffic noise. At the same time, 2 kilometers away, in the village of Varen, you can do your daily shopping. There is a supermarket and a tourist office. There is also a beautiful 13th century Romanesque church to visit and the town hall is located in a 15th century castle. The region is a hiking paradise. Hiking trails are waiting for you. Bicycle routes are signposted. One of these routes even runs past the house.

The landscape is varied and hilly with beautiful views. Towards Gaillac you will find vineyards on the slopes. Near Saint Antonin rock formations that can be beautifully viewed from the canoe. It is also the region of the Cathars. There are many fortresses, castles, towns and villages that still remember their presence and their fight for religious freedom. Like Najac, Cordes-sur-Ciel is located on a strategic rock, very important during the Cathar era. Cordes gives a beautiful full view of the surrounding landscape from its high terraces and has long been much preferred by artists to live and exhibit. Zadkine, the world-famous sculptor, lived in Bruniquel for a time. A beautiful statue of him can still be found in the church of Caylus. For a day out, Albi and Toulouse, with their southern charm, are definitely worth a visit.
