The 70,000-hectare Sibillini Mountains, composed mainly of limestone, are located on the border of the regions of Le Marche and Umbria. Monte Vettore (one of the highest peaks in mainland Italy), wild mountain lakes and the windswept high plains of the Monti Sibillini offer some of the most spectacular scenery in the Marches. The Parco Nazionale dei Monti Sibillini, with its beautiful fauna and flora, is a jewel of a natural park where mountain peaks tower over flower-filled fields and unspoiled villages can be found in the valleys. The area is a true hiking paradise. The towns of Amandola and Sarnano offer a nice starting point to start a route. In the middle of the Sibillini is the Piano Grande, a 40 km² plain, which in spring is dotted with a beautiful field of flowers. Hiking trails traverse these mountains like a web, giving the opportunity to discover the natural and historical-cultural environment from spring to autumn. During winter, when the highest peaks are covered with snow, there is the possibility of skiing among the forests and valleys.
