Nature house in Colméry - Bourgogne

Take some time to truly reconnect with yourself in a special setting, surrounded by nature. Be amazed by the open space and the silence, in a place where time seems to have stood still. The nature house is nestled among meadows. In the morning, you’ll be greeted by your “neighbors”—the Charolais cows for which Burgundy is famous—and by a symphony of birdsong. The picturesque French villages, castles, and landscapes in the immediate vicinity will surprise you. You’ll have plenty of space here to relax—for example, on your own terrace, in the orchard, in the yard, in the meadow, or by your own lake!  Twiga House is open year-round, but from October through the end of March, we run our lodge in South Africa. The chickens are on vacation with the neighbors during that time. You can use the property year-round, but the activities and breakfast service at Kimaro are only available from the last week of April through the end of September.

From the farm, you walk along a sandy path into a vast forest, where you’ll hardly see anyone—except for deer. It’s the perfect place for hiking, mushroom hunting, or mountain biking. Burgundy, the duchy that was part of the Netherlands in the 15th century. With a full 30 percent of its land covered by forests, Burgundy is the most intimate forested region in all of France! And when the forest gives way, rhythmic rows of grapevines lead to hedgerows and villages. Silence in your mind, no harsh sounds of busy city life, but a background chorus of birdsong, grasshoppers, and crickets, the croaking of frogs, the hoot of an owl or a bird of prey, and the occasional “sonatas” of our rooster Boris, who reminds you that he is lord and master of the yard. A welcome escape from the daily hustle and bustle! Feel the peace wash over you. Don’t be surprised if you suddenly spot a fox, badger, weasel, or deer darting by. The roe deer even come to drink from the lake. In the orchard and on the farmyard, you’ll find pears, cherries, plums, hazelnuts, figs, blackberries, and raspberries. You’re welcome to collect fresh eggs from the chicken coop in the morning. The hosts often build a cozy fire in the evening. It’s the perfect spot to lose yourself in daydreams with a glass of wine or champagne under a beautiful starry sky, listening to the nighttime sounds of a rich and vibrant animal world.
