Nature house in Almunia de San Lorenzo

This nature house is located in the village of Almunia de San Lorenzo. Almunia is hardly an "abandoned village", like so many in this area. Here about five houses are still in use and there is a farm (grain, sheep and cattle) operating in the fields around the village. The nature house is actually the upper floor of a loose outbuilding in the landlords' yard. The house has been restored by the current landlords, respecting the local architectural style and using traditional materials. The cottage has simple furnishings, with all the essentials for a pleasant stay. You will find an equipped kitchen with refrigerator, dining/sitting room, shower and toilet. In summer the cottage is cool, in winter pleasantly heated with a wood stove.

The thrill of this nature house is experiencing deep silence. The night sky is breathtakingly beautiful: no light pollution! But the landscape around Almunia is also impressive with views to the white peaks of the Pyrenees. In any direction you can take a short or longer walk directly from your cottage through the hills of the Sierra de Almunia. For birdwatchers: bee-eaters, hoopoes, vultures, owls, cuckoo, nightingale, partridge, quail.... With binoculars in the shade of the century-old mulberry tree or walking endlessly in the hills around the village, you will also meet the most beautiful butterflies and beetles, but there is also every chance to see badgers, foxes, hares, bats, toads, frogs, snakes and lizards. The larger national parks of Aigues Tortes and Ordesa y monte Perdido are pleasantly close, and fresh bread is available nearby (in Tolva). Restaurants and stores, fuel and internet can be found quickly, for example in the sympathetic castle village of Benabarre. In the immediate vicinity there is plenty to do; swimming water, beautiful towns, a well-maintained network of hiking and cycling/mountain biking routes, canoeing and horseback riding.
