Nature house in Eyeries
Southwestern Ireland, Ireland

The nature house is a modern, cozy and comfortable bungalow located directly on the Atlantic Ocean overlooking a seal colony. The animals can be seen from the living room, and even better, using the telescope provided (suitable for day and night). A four-minute walk away is fishing lake Lough Fada where free fishing is available. The cottage is located directly on "The Wild Atlantic Way" and on the Beara walking trail. There is a mild climate here due to the warm Gulf Stream. Palm trees, tree ferns and many other subtropical plants grow here. Nature is of exquisite raw beauty. The Beara Peninsula is as large in area as the province of Utrecht, but only 5000 people live here! Because of this very low population density and the geniality of the Irish, there is a benevolent, peaceful atmosphere here. The landlord left for Ireland in 1994 and lives a short distance from this nature house, as it has, among other things, a music studio, a ceramic workshop, an observatory, a fishing boat, lobster cages, a canoe and more fun tools to make your stay a success.
Nature and surroundings
The area is a Special Area of Conservation (SAC) with diverse flora and fauna specimens enjoying protection. Because the peninsula has no heavy traffic or agriculture, there is no pollution. There are several hiking trails that often go through the middle of nature. You walk along loughs (lakes) and rivers overlooking the fjord-like Kenmare River and the mountains of Iveragh. As you head into the peninsula, you'll climb the Caha Mountains and the Slieve Miskish Mountains. These mountains form the backbone of the peninsula. The silence of giant rocks and the beautiful, deep blue waves of the Atlantic Ocean are a sight to behold. The villages of Ardgroom, Eyeries and Allihies form rare small-scale settlements. In Allihies, walk among old copper mines to Castletownbere, an attractive fishing village overlooking Bantry Bay. Eyeries and Ardgroom are colorful, picturesque villages with stores, post offices and small pubs. There is opportunity to learn more about beekeeping; the landlords have 10 hives. Although these buckfast bees are not likely to sting, protective clothing is worn. The area is rich in historical monuments and relics.
