Nature house in Bonac-Irazein

This cozy nature house with a porch and an idyllic balcony is located in the heart of the Ariège National Park, at an elevation of 908 meters. The nature house is situated in a very peaceful spot at the end of the Vallée d'Orle. A short distance further on, the road ends and the mountain hiking trails begin, leading toward the Spanish border, the Port d’Orle, Mont Valier, Mail de Bulard, and Maubermé (mountain peaks), and the GR10. The nature house is situated in true wilderness, on a 700 m² plot of private land, and has its own driveway. It has two bedrooms: one with a "twijfelaar" bed and a single bed, and another with a double bed. There is a lovely new kitchen (2024) and a new shower stall (2023). The house is primarily heated by a cozy wood stove. In addition, electric heaters are available throughout the house, including the bathroom. Amenities such as a bakery and supermarket are about a 15-minute drive away.

The remote department of Ariège (Midi-Pyrénées region), of which the Couserans is a part, remains largely undeveloped for tourism. It has nearly 130 lakes, 3,000 kilometers of rivers, secluded valleys, mountains, caves, castles, Romanesque churches, and ancient towns. The Couserans consists of 18 valleys. Bonac-Irazein is located in the Vallée du Biros, a valley with a few tiny villages, near the Spanish border. Hiking along the well-marked trails is one of the activities you can enjoy in Ariège, but you can also participate in various whitewater sports. The fact that Ariège offers beautiful cycling routes is evident from the many editions of the Tour de France that have passed right through this region. With more than 5,000 kilometers of signposted hiking trails (GR10, GR11), there’s plenty for everyone to discover here. Part of the famous Santiago de Compostela pilgrimage route passes through Ariège. This section of the well-known pilgrimage takes you past, among other sites, the church of Audressein and the episcopal city of Saint-Lizier, both of which are also listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
