Nature house in Lemé

Romantic nature house in the Thiérache. Fifteen years ago, the landlords bought this farmhouse from 1840. It is a typical Thiérache cottage, with red brick and yellow joints, restored in its old style, but with all the comforts. The cottage is free at the edge of Lemé, a village of 350 inhabitants, at the end of a dead-end road. No traffic, quiet in the green, right on the fields and close to a large, old forest: the Foret Domaniale de Marfontaine. From the house you can make beautiful walks on the hollow roads around the village and to the forest. This nature house has a large garden with orchard and "forest" (6400 m²) and is bordered by tall trees. There are many species of birds. There is a large playground with terraces. It is an ideal place for cycling, walking, making music, reading or just doing nothing. There is a satellite TV with all Dutch and Flemish channels. The cottage is a non-smoking cottage.

Lemé is located in the Thiérache, a green, hilly region in northern France. It is a lovely, unspoiled bocage landscape and is also called the "green lung of Aisne." Many of the villages in La Thiérache are built around heavily fortified red-brick churches, the "red forts." There is no lively nightlife, but there are plenty of sights to see in the area. To name a few: the medieval city center and cathedral of Laon, the cathedrals of Reims and Amiens, the Familistère in Guise, the cities of Saint Quentin and Soissons, and the Matisse Museum in Le Cateau. You can take walks and bike rides in the Oise valley. Among others, on the "Axe Vert," an old railroad line that runs 40 kilometers from Hirson to Guise. You can go horseback riding and you can canoe on the Oise. There are swimming pools in Guise, Hirson and Nouvion. The nearest stores (grocery, bakery, butcher, pharmacy) are in Sains Richaumont, four kilometers from Lemé. In Vervins, 10 kilometers away, there are supermarkets and restaurants. The village of Lemé is 35 kilometers from Laon, 75 kilometers from Reims, 155 kilometers from Brussels and 210 kilometers from Paris.
