Nature house in Winterswijk Meddo

This farmhouse recreated in old Saxon style is very luxuriously furnished and fully equipped. The nature house is located on a small park of eight houses, at the end of a short road. The free garden around the house is completely fenced and borders a stream where deer can be regularly seen. In the middle of the Achterhoek nature and the National Landscape Winterswijk, this is an ideal place to stay for hiking and cycling enthusiasts. The Hilgelomeer is less than 100 meters from the front door! There are beaches around Lake Hilgelo, including a nude beach. Horse lovers can bring their own horse, horses are also available for rent at the park. Three kilometers away is the town of Winterswijk with extensive shopping and entertainment opportunities. Nature lovers can enjoy the many nature reserves that are all within cycling distance. First of all, nearby is the Korenburgerveen, a nature reserve in Winterswijk. This consists of raised bog, swamp forest, heath and nutrient-poor grasslands with woolly grass, peat moss and peat moss. Also nearby is the Zwilbroeks Veen, a nature reserve on the Dutch border just north of Meddo. This protected nature reserve is a breeding ground for more than 100 bird species. The marsh area is home to the largest inland black-headed gull colony in Germany, with 16,000 gulls counted. Furthermore, the Zwillbroeks Veen is the northernmost breeding area for flamingos. More than forty flamingos reside in the area. Finally, in the vicinity you will find the Winterswijk Stone Quarry. The rock found here was formed between about 240 - 236 million years ago in a shallow sea. The area in question is only 2800 meters long, 200 meters wide and about 40 meters thick and is known for the finds of fossils. An eagle owl pair has been breeding in the quarry for years: the largest owl species in our country.
