In the beautiful Achterhoek coulisse landscape you will find a reed-covered haystack built according to original design and transformed into a vacation home. The haystack is fully equipped: bathroom with shower and toilet, kitchenette with fully equipped kitchen, sitting and working area. The grounds of Earth-Work de Stegge are set up as a place of inspiration for biodiversity and sustainability. The 2 hectare large, very varied terrain lies on the edge of the hamlet Winterswijk-Kotten, in the middle of the beautiful Achterhoek scenery. The road on which Earth-Werk de Stegge is located is a quiet country road two kilometers from the German border. On the very spacious yard, in addition to the farm and the Hooiberg, there is also an original Radmakerhuuske to rent. On the grounds there is plenty to discover in terms of nature experience, biodiversity and sustainable living.
Nature and surroundings
Several sustainable installations can be viewed on the site (solar panels, woodchip central heating, helophyte filter and eco-toilet), for which we provide guided tours. There is a food forest, a large permaculture vegetable garden and an orchard with a meadow. Chickens also roam the grounds. Winterswijk is one of the National Landscapes in the Netherlands. The surroundings of Winterswijk are characterized by an exceptional small scale. The land consolidation that has resulted in large fields and pastures in the rest of the Netherlands has never been implemented in the east of Winterswijk. The environment is a constant alternation of small forest plots and cultivated land, mostly surrounded by wooded banks. Some of the roads in the outskirts of Winterswijk are unpaved. This makes Winterswijk a true walking and cycling paradise.
