Spacious (>250m2) postmodern bungalow (1975) in the valley of the Hoëgne River in the hills of the High Fens, Belgian Ardennes. The house is simple and very practical. Plenty of seating. Fine box spring beds and all the usual kitchen equipment is available. The bungalow is equipped as a group accommodation for up to 8/9 guests. Expect a lovely place to live, certainly not a five-star accommodation, back to basics, but still with luxury. The house is a perfect starting point for exploring this beautiful nature reserve. Close by: Coo, Francorchamps, Spa, Banneux, Monschau. The house is in the middle of the forest, this is seriously different living than in a city. The house is heated with mazout, electricity and/or pellets, no gas! On cold winter days, expect to pay €25 p.d. in energy costs. You get a free wheelbarrow of wood. The pellets are € 10 per 15kg bag. Cheap and fine heating you do with the pellets! On cold days you can enjoy (additional) heating.

Nature and surroundings

The High Fens has a lot of precipitation. It is located in the middle of the forest. In winter, you may just run into a deer in the garden. Raccoons, wild boars, it all lives in the surrounding woods! Here you are really outside in nature. Do not compare the living situation with a house in the city or a village. Bit spartan it is. From the house you walk directly via the river Hoëgne to the beautiful forests and moors of the High Fens and the highest point of Belgium: the Baraque Michel. The High Fens are marshy, stay on the paths. Along the way you will not come into contact with the inhabited world, allowing you to fully enjoy what nature has to offer. Furthermore, by car you can easily take a day trip to Monschau, Liege, Verviers, Aachen. And even closer is the beautiful Spa and Malmedy. You can also spend a day with the children and go to Plopsaland Coo and the waterfalls there. Also pilgrimage site Banneux is nearby.

Fantastic!!! Clean and fine beds, lovely wood and pallet stove. The house is a bit chilly, but with a sweater, blankets and the stove on it is lovely. Nice couches and chairs, super nice kitchen with cozy dining table. We have seen many cottages, but this is one we will come back for.Good contact with the owner

    Nature, peace & environment: 5/5

You come there for the nature, the garden is really great. The dog can run freely (ours does not run away), the children can play hide and seek for hours in the forest behind, and if you put the chair from the terrace under the tree in the garden you have a top view. If you walk 3 minutes downhill, you walk into the forest along a small river. Here you can walk for miles. At this time of year not busy. Also here hours of fun for dogs and children. For us a wonderful experience with Christmas!!!

The house is a little dated, but offers everything you need to relax. Lots of couches, cozy wood and pellet stoves, the kitchen is large and adequately equipped. The dining area offers space for 12 people. You really have the property to yourself and can forget about everyday life there. Communication with the landlord was uncomplicated and very friendly (telephone check-in). Everything worked as we had hoped.

    Nature, peace & environment: 4/5

The area seems to be popular for hikers, with a cottage surrounded by greenery. The traffic on the road didn't bother us and is very moderate.

What does “contactless stay” mean?
You can stay here without personal contact with the host, for example via a key safe or digital access. A contactless stay does not always have to be mandatory.
What does “Fireworks-free” mean?
The host indicates that the area is firework-free. Firework-free means that no firework bangs can be heard in and around the accommodation. You might occasionally hear some noise or see some light from fireworks set off outside the immediate area. It is important that you agree with the landlord on what you can expect.
