About this nature house

In the middle of the meadows in the village of Barchem in the Geldersch Landscape", this Saxon farm was built in 1883. The ruralhut is located just outside the village of Barchem, in the middle of the meadows and between the hills of the Lochem mountain. The ruralhut has four bedrooms and offers accommodation for eight people. It is equipped with all modern conveniences. You can enjoy full privacy. The only attendees except you are the cows that walk freely in the pastures and the home owner who lives a little further on the yard. The farm is not visible from the road. You can use a Finnish sauna or Turkish steam bath (€25 per two hours).

Nature and surroundings

The view consists of the Lochem mountain. The original meaning of Barchem is  'Village near the Mountain'. As the people of the region say: 'The most beautiful place in Lochem'. The Lochemer mountain is a 49.2 meter high hill in the Dutch province of Gelderland. The lateral moraine, of which the Lochem mountain is the highest point, lies between Lochem (north) and Barchem (south) and originates from Pleistocene. On the south side lies the other important summit, the Kale Mountain. On the north side you will find the lower Paasch mountain. The name Barchem also comes from the proximity of the village to the lateral moraine. During the Saalien origin, Lochemse Mountain was propelled from precipitation of river sediments by land ice lobes from the northeast. Between the peaks of the Lochemse Mountain and the Bald Mountain you will find a place with seepage, which is named the Devil's whirl. The area around the Lochem mountain has already been established for hundreds of years. Traces of habitation and iron extraction from the late Middle Ages were found in the area. The wooded Lochemer mountain, together with the Bald Mountain and the surrounding lands and woods, belong to a 171 hectare nature reserve of the Geldersch Landscape Foundation. On the top of the Lochemse Mountain there is a round watchdog from 1893 which is no longer accessible at the moment.
