However, a quick break from the urban way of living, every now and then, is essential to us adults. One way to do that is to travel to the Danish island of Bornholm. Perhaps you’re in a need of a spontaneous trip to the golden beaches on the east coast. Bornholm - a traveler’s paradise

Bornholm located in the Baltic Sea is home to unique nature and breathtaking landscapes. Bornholm is home to a range of animals - birds, bats, amphibians, reptiles, many insects, arachnids, and mammals. When you’re not visiting the east coast’s beaches, you might find yourself in the natural paradise which is northern Bornholm. Should you decide to go on a last-minute Bornholm trip, you could explore the island’s rich flora. You might come across the lengthy pastures, thick juniper thickets, and the dense Almindingen forest in the middle of the island, made out of oak, beech, birch, and hornwort.

Additionally, golden beaches are spread throughout the eastern, southern, and small parts of the northern coast. Deemed by some “the sunniest part of Denmark”, it definitely deserves this nickname. In Bornholm, you can find almost 50 kilometers of sandy beaches with crystal clear water. If you walk from Hasle (on the north-west side) heading south, you will be able to walk on amber beaches all the way to Balka, which is one of the most visited beaches on the island. Moreover, the beaches in south Bornholm are perfectly suitable for small children, because the water is shallow and even the youngest kids can play in the water without any concerns.

Staying active during your getaway

The beaches on Bornholm invite you to do more than just glare at the crystal waters and enjoy nature. The coastlines also call for relaxing sunbathing, splashing around, and if you’d like to stay active, there is always an option for a long walk or you can go kayaking, surfing, paddling, or even diving. Furthermore, hiking through the Almindingen forest is an excellent way to spend your time during your last-minute Bornholm holiday. There you can find magical thick woodlands with fairytale-like trees and you might encounter something else, the old castle ruins Lilleborg and Gamleborg. Not many people visit them since they are not preserved and therefore it’s a wonderful opportunity to detach yourself from the outer world and live through your own fantasy. Last but not least, Denmark’s best rock climbing area is none other but the island of Bornholm. There are no giant cliffs on the island, but plenty of single pitch routes (the route could be completed in one pitch), with something for everyone. Whether you are an experienced mountain climber or if you’d like just to try out this extreme sport, you will find your place in the dramatic cliffs of northern Bornholm.
