Molise - a little-known region of outrageous natural beauty
Molise is a small Italian region hiding between the massive mountain ranges of the Apennines, and the stirring blue waters of the Adriatic Sea. Book your cottage in Molise with us, and you’ll get to experience the warm-hearted hospitality and ancient flavors of this heavenly beautiful place. A main characteristic of the region is the tratturi. Those are momentous trails of seasonal migration of shepherds, who lead their livestock to join the pastures of the bordering Abruzzo and Apulia. Expect to find the grassy mountainous landscape filled with cattle in the beginning of spring and the end of the summer season. This centuries-old practice is a living testimony of the charming peasant life that is so appreciated in Italy. Transhumance is just one of the many traditions that Molise keeps to this day. The region is described as an “old-fashioned world” not without a reason. There are numerous castles, abbeys, sanctuaries, and historic ruins of Roman-build buildings that can make you feel like you’re living in a fairytale of old times. But what about the nature of Molise? Well, we can start with the scenic coast in the northeast of Molise. There you’ll find wide sandy beaches with crystal clear waters, where you can swim and bathe all summer long. Around the coastal town of Termoli, there are many quaint bays and coves suitable for a quiet day in solitude on the beach. In Molise there are also two nature reserves that are part of the UNESCO project “Man and Biosphere”. These are namely Montedimezzo and Collemeluccio, where you can take long walks and discover a rich biodiversity of plants and animals. If you want to explore nature another great place to visit is the National Park Abruzzo, Lazio, Molise. Check our cottages in the park to find a home in the middle of this pristine environment.
