Our nature house, Huize Drenthe, is located in the heart of Drenthe, on the edge of the Drents Friese Wold. From the large backyard, we step right into the forest for a relaxing walk through the Drenthe countryside. After many years of enjoyment, we still consider our home the ideal base for a relaxing vacation. We would love to share that with you! The house features three double bedrooms spread over two floors. It includes a (basic) kitchen and bathroom. The toilet is located in a separate room. Our guests describe the living room, with its wood stove, as cozy and inviting. The house is located in the private bungalow park De Heerlickheyt, where the emphasis is on tranquility. In the village of Hoogersmilde, there are a few amenities, such as a small supermarket and a snack bar. A short drive away in Smilde, you’ll find all the shops you need for your daily groceries.
Nature and surroundings
The cottage is surrounded by vast forests with countless hiking trails that lead you straight into nature. A short distance away lies the authentic Drenthe village of Diever, where the Midden-Drenthe Tourist Office will be happy to assist you with tips and itineraries. The area offers a rich mix of nature and culture. The Drents-Friese Wold is one of the largest nature reserves in the Netherlands, with endless hiking and biking trails. The Dwingelderveld, the largest wet heathland area in Western Europe, surprises with its open plains and flocks of sheep with shepherds. For a unique historical experience, visit the Society of Benevolence in Veenhuizen, Frederiksoord, or Wilhelminaoord. And if you’d like to get out on the water, you can easily reach Giethoorn to sail through the Weerribben. For a day trip to the city, Meppel, Assen, Emmen, Zwolle, and Groningen are all within easy reach, each with its own atmosphere and character and plenty of shops and restaurants.
