Just outside the village of Ruinen, on the edge of the Anserdennen and the "Dwingelderveld" National Park, you’ll find our guesthouse / Bed & Breakfast De Witte Kip (formerly 't Eshuus). Here you can enjoy a truly rural stay in a wonderfully peaceful spot with stunning views over the countryside, less than 2 km from the village green of Ruinen. Take a break from the hustle and bustle and enjoy some peace and quiet! Starting September 1, 2026, you’re warmly welcome to stay in one of our cozy rooms, Tokkie or Aagje. They’re named after our beloved pet chickens. The Tokkie room is spacious, featuring a comfortable double bed, a private bathroom with underfloor heating, a cozy sitting and dining area, and a kitchenette equipped with a kettle, coffee maker, refrigerator, small oven, and electric hotplate. You can relax on your own terrace with a sunny garden. Would you like to start your day with a delicious country-style breakfast? Please let us know when you make your reservation (€11.00 per person per night). Would you like to rent Room Aagje? Then check out De Witte Kip Aagje.
Nature and surroundings
Here, you’ll wake up to the sound of birds singing, and you might just come face to face with a squirrel, a roe deer, a woodpecker, a hedgehog, or a badger. The nature house is located in one of the quietest spots in the Netherlands, where you can still see countless stars at night. From De Witte Kip, you can walk or bike right into the “Dwingelderveld” National Park, which covers nearly 4,000 hectares. It’s a diverse forested area with patches of heathland and many ponds. At the nearby visitor center, you’ll find information about the park and the sheepfold. A bike path across the heath takes you to the beautiful village of Dwingeloo with its charming village green. Enjoy a drink on a patio or visit the charming shops. The nature house is located at Hiking Route Junction 39 and near Bicycle Route Junction 57. In the surrounding area, you’ll also find the Drents-Friese Wold and Holtingerveld National Parks. Other charming villages in the area include Ruinen, Diever, Vledder, and Havelte. Giethoorn, with all its canals, is also worth a visit.

Free cancellation within 7 days of your booking confirmation, provided the booking request was made more than 28 days before the start date. For bookings starting within 28 days, free cancellation applies within 24 hours. If you cancel within the specified period, you are entitled to a full refund of the booking amount.
After that, you will receive a partial refund of the trip cost and a 100% refund of the deposit:
• Up to 42 days before arrival: 70% refund
• 42–28 days before arrival: 40% refund
• 28 days through the day of arrival: 10% refund
• On the day of arrival or later: no refund
- Out of respect for nature: silence between 10:00 PM and 7:00 AM.
- Minimum age of main booker: 18 years.
- Smoking is not allowed in this nature house.
- No fireworks are allowed at this Nature House.
- No parties or events are allowed.
- This nature house is not suitable for groups of young people, students and sports teams.
- Waste separation is mandatory in this nature house.
