This converted 1873 Convalescent Home offers a simple yet peaceful setting, ideal for those seeking quietude and inspiration, whether you’re an artist, vacationer, or someone simply seeking to reconnect with nature in a former monastic community. Ground-floor flat with private courtyards, offering a peaceful space to reflect and unwind. Simple, open-plan lounge and kitchen with unobstructed views of the River Eachaig, Holy Loch, and surrounding hills. Kilmun, once a monastic settlement on the Holy Loch near the seaside town of Dunoon, lies within easy reach of Glasgow by train and ferry. Steeped in quiet heritage, it embodies centuries of spiritual presence at the gateway to Argyll’s shoreline and the mountains and woodlands of the Southwest Highlands. Nearby, the old church, built upon medieval foundations, is accessible from an arboretum trail just behind the house: trees gathered from around the world. .

Nature and surroundings

One might walk all the way to the magical Puck’s Glen, which itself is not far from Benmore Botanical Garden, Loch Eck, other otherworldly nature spots. Nearer the flat, in walking (or kayaking distance), lies a natural swimming spot where the River Eachaig meets the Holy Loch- and convenient to the petrol station with its assortment of fresh groceries. A short bus or car ride away, a seaside town, served by ferries from Gourock: Dunoon itself offers full grocery amenities & more. The climate is mild, mist often forms around the mountains, with a variety of wildlife, from coupled sure swans to the talkative migratory birds, red squirrels, etc., The ruins of Toward Castle look across the Clyde estuary. The hills of Glen Massan hold quiet trails through forest and stream. The Bishop’s Glen reservoir rests close to Dunoon and its woodland walks. The Cowal Way path passes through, marking a route across peninsulas and glens. The high viewpoints above Strone reveal the merging sea loch

    General rating:
    2/10

Tip: Cutlery (4 of everything) thrown loose in drawer, frying pan has broken nonstick coating, there are 2 wine glasses, indeterminate junk in countertop cabinets). Beds way too soft. No extra blankets in cold period. no t.v., mood lighting (Christmas lights) broken, dining table almost falls over, (leg is loose). Top: there is hot water and electric heaters. ( The one in the shower, however, does not work).Landlord's response:We appreciate that you took the time to share your opinion, although we partially differ.According to our information and a check by an electrician, there was no problem with the fire alarm. We were surprised to find the house with the door open, the heating on and the faucets running, though.

    Nature, peace & environment:
    5/5

Beautiful surroundings, quiet cottage (provided the professionally mounted smoke detector does not spontaneously and randomly turn on and off at 3:00 at night)
