Swedish tranquility at its purest—a retreat with views of the valley and a small river (especially from the sauna). Welcome to my private paradise in Sweden: a unique retreat with a sauna on 3,000 m² of private land, tucked away in the silence of nature. Here you can hear the murmur of a small river in the valley, the crackling of wood in the soapstone stove, and beyond… many animals, including the frequent bellowing of deer. Secluded and private just as you’d like it, yet close to everything. My vlog about the development of this property on YouTube, “Kees-Jan in Sweden”
Nature and surroundings
The grounds, spanning over 3,000 m², exude complete tranquility. When you step out of the guesthouse, you’ll find yourself on a balcony that seems to hang literally between heaven and earth. On one side, you’ll see the lush garden, where fruit trees bloom and bear fruit in season—from yellow and blue plums to berries, cherries, raspberries, and several varieties of apples. On the other side, a panoramic view of the valley unfolds, featuring stately trees, open skies, and the small river winding its way through the landscape in the distance. It’s the perfect spot to start the day with a cup of coffee or to end it as the sun slowly disappears behind the tall spruce trees. You won’t run into a soul on this property, but you can be back in the hustle and bustle in no time.

Pay close attention to what isn’t being said or shown. The “bathroom” is a niche in the living room with a washing machine and bathtub hidden behind a small curtain. There’s no sink, and when you shower, you bump your head on the ceiling light. Because of the splashing, it’s hard to keep the bathroom dry—partly because the washing machine is in the way. You have to brush your teeth at the tiny kitchen counter. There’s no toilet in the cottage; it’s located in a shed outside, behind the second small building.
The kitchen is very small, has only two stovetops, and a refrigerator that barely fits groceries. There’s no drinking water from the tap: a large jerry can sits on the already tiny countertop. The hot water wasn’t even enough to wash two plates, so we had to boil water.
We were so disappointed that we immediately booked another place to stay the very next day and left. We definitely do not recommend this place.
The landscape consisted mainly of farmland and a small valley that was very overgrown. It didn't seem like you could just go for a walk there.
