On the Proeftuin of Linschoten there are two special cottages, hidden among the pear trees: sustainably designed and lovingly built from 40 layers of recycled cardboard and finished with wood. The Wikkelhouses are cleverly arranged, heated by a heat pump, equipped with solar panels and connected to a sustainable water purification system. The atmosphere in the cottages is surprisingly cozy and here you can completely unwind. The cottages are decorated as much as possible with second-hand furniture and accessories. Hoping to inspire you as a guest to: 'reduce, re-use, recycle'. From your cottage you have a view of the flowers and the bees and with direct access to your own piece of edible garden. Each little garden grows goodies like gooseberries, mint, strawberries, grapes, rhubarb and, of course, pears from the orchard itself. There is also a store in the garden, where you can get vegetables from the Proeftuin, organic juices, eggs and dairy from the neighboring farmer, among other things.
Nature and surroundings
The Proeftuin van Linschoten is part of the Landgoed Linschoten, one of the largest private estates in the Netherlands. From your cottage you can walk straight into the countryside for a long walk through the Green Heart. But the village of Linschoten is also easy to reach, with its historic streets and good restaurants, such as De Burgemeester. Star chef Sander cooks here with vegetables from the Proeftuin and there is a special vegetarian Proeftuin menu for you as a guest. If you want to learn a little more about Linschoten, walk the Monument Route and settle down for a while at Theetuin De Schapenlaan. The town of Woerden is also nearby: ideal for a terrace or a visit to the regional market. Fancy a day in the city? Utrecht and Gouda are easily accessible by bike or train. But bet you'd rather just stay on the estate, with a book in your hand, a view of the flowers and a cup of herbal tea from your own pick?
