The Mafkeet is furnished as a bedroom with two chairs and a small table. It has a small sink and a kettle, so you can make your own coffee and tea. It’s basically a sort of guest room away from home. It’s an ideal base for day trips in the area. Breakfast (including enough for lunch) and dinner are available for an additional fee. For dinner, you’ll eat whatever’s on the menu (in or near your own cottage). We’ve already come up with more options for preparing your own meals, but they aren’t available yet. Bathroom facilities consist of a composting toilet and a shower with cold water (or lukewarm water in warm weather). In 2026, you may share the bathroom facilities with guests from De Tent. Depending on the season, there’s plenty of fruit available, which you’re welcome to pick and enjoy to your heart’s content.
Nature and surroundings
This nature house embodies a “back to basics” lifestyle, offering peace, open space, and a way of life in harmony with nature and the seasons. Next to our house, we have a greenhouse, a food forest, an orchard, a vegetable garden, and a large barn. Also available for rent on the property are “De Blokhut” and “De Tent” (starting in May). On the border between Drenthe and Overijssel, you’ll find plenty of peace and space. It’s a wonderful place for walking and biking. Toward Hardenberg, you’ll find the beautiful Vecht Valley, and in Drenthe there are several nature parks. A walking trail of about 10 km starts right from our street and leads toward and around the village. On the property, there’s also a food forest (under development) and a permaculture vegetable garden. If you’d like to help out there or learn more about processing the produce, many things are possible in consultation.

For those looking for peace and simplicity, this is all you are looking for at a soft price. Only downside is that it could be quite chilly in winter :) The immediate surroundings are mostly flat land, and within easy reach are several beautiful natural areas.
Voor wie rust en eenvoud zoekt, is dit alles wat je zoekt voor een zacht prijsje. Enige nadeel is dat het behoorlijk fris kon zijn in de winter :) De directe omgeving is vooral platte land, en op goed bereikbare afstand zijn verschillende mooie natuurgebieden te vinden.
