    We were warmly welcomed by Els and her sweet dogs and had a wonderful midweek stay at De Vrekel. Despite the high temperatures that week, we were never too hot in or around the cottage thanks to the natural air conditioning provided by the trees. The cottage is cozy and well-furnished. We slept soundly and were able to relax in the lovely cottage and the beautiful wooded garden. We visited the Elaisa wellness center (De Vrekel was an ideal base for this: a 20-minute drive) and went on a lovely bike ride and hike. We also visited the nearby barefoot trail. Maastricht is just 13 kilometers away, and other cities are nearby as well. Our interactions with the hosts were very pleasant.
